COVID UPDATE 2020-21

SHARING THE STORY OF OUR SOCIAL RECOVERY

COVID UPDATE (2020-2021)

“Our vision is for Glasgow to be a world class city, with thriving and resilient communities where everyone can flourish and benefit from the city’s success.”

Welcome to the Glasgow Community Planning Partnership’s Covid-19 Update on the Community Action Plan. The challenges 2020 brought with it were both unforeseen and unprecedented, and the last two years have been an especially trying period for Glasgow’s communities. A great deal of work has been delivered by our partners to support the city’s Social Recovery, and in this update we aim to share with you the stories of that work and the people it has helped.

Due to the immediate need to respond to Covid, and the additional social issues which emerged from response measures such as lockdowns and furlough, work on the Community Action Plan was halted to allow for resources to be re-directed. Where focus had previously been on Transport, or Childcare, it became more urgent to address social isolation, or supporting home learning.

The Social Recovery Taskforce was established in July 2020, with the key aim of addressing the societal and equality impacts of the pandemic, and took over the Action Plan’s role of providing direction to the work of its member bodies. The Taskforce was split into workstreams, with each focused on a specific issue or community which had been disproportionately impacted by Covid, and much of the work covered in this update stems from these workstreams.

The Themes section at the top of the page is closely mapped to the workstream areas and communities, and within each theme you can

read the stories of a sample of the projects from that area. Alongside each story we have included data relating to its performance and testimony from those it has benefitted where available.

Alternatively, you can browse the stories by priority, as each article features various icons which demonstrate the priority areas it positively impacts on. Despite being primarily Covid-19 driven, much of the work we’re reporting on does link back to the Community Plan focus areas, which are represented by five of the priorities. There are also a few new additions, such as Climate and Covid-19 Recovery, as we recognise certain issues have become more important to the people of Glasgow since the Community Plan’s conception.

We have accomplished a lot these past two years. We improved the city’s mental health journey, helping vulnerable people access the support they need, when they need it. We assisted organisations in helping bring people together and feel less alone, during a winter many spent stuck in their homes. We helped Glasgow’s disadvantaged Young People find work, despite the pandemic’s drastic effect on the job market. We provided people with essential digital skills, so they could keep in touch with loved ones, and keep up with an ever-evolving economy. And we did so much more.

We hope you enjoy the insight into all we achieved that this Update provides.
